#HelloVictoria – TK and Hammerson launch Leeds’ newest shopping destination25 October 2016
After 8 years of working in partnership with retail developers Hammerson, this week TK launched Victoria Gate, Leeds’ £165m premium retail destination!
From public consultation management and initial planning permission to creating brand concepts, local and regional media relations and social media management, TK has managed this huge project from day one to doors opening, and we are so proud to say that the launch was a big success!
As well as giving a new lease of life to a corner of Leeds city centre that has been unloved for many years, Victoria Gate also houses Leeds’ first ever John Lewis, the legendary brand’s Northern flagship store.
During the weeks building up to launch, and on the big day itself, the TK PR & Social team achieved more than £1 million worth of coverage, which reached 30.8 million people – nearly half of the whole UK population!
People up and down the UK could see, hear and read about Victoria Gate on BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 4, The Guardian, Daily Mail, The Financial Times, ITV Calendar and BBC Radio Leeds, to name but a few!
As the only major shopping centre to open in the UK in 2016, a big talking point for the media was the changing face of retail.
A decade ago, with the threat of online shopping looming, Victoria Gate would have been a bold move. But today, consumers want a mix of the ease and convenience that online offers, with an ever-impressive physical shopping experience that can only be found in-store.
From the striking gold light pendants, to the 130,000 granite tiles on the floor, the already iconic John Lewis building and stunning curved glass shop fronts in the Victoria arcades, it’s a proud moment for TK to say that we’ve been part of a development that is as beautiful as it is iconic.
